SUMMARY:The Sick Children's Trust Collection
DESCRIPTION:Reception\, Year 1\, Year 2\, Year 3\, Year 4\, Year 5\, Year 6 \nFor the past ten years\, we have been collecting ‘Christmas Essentials’ to take to Eckersley House in Leeds\, NICU\, the Children’s Ward and the Children’s A&E at Hull Royal on the 20th December. Eckersley House is a property located at Leeds General Infirmary and owned by The Sick Children’s Trust (charity no 284416) – they provide accommodation and support to the parents and siblings of children who are seriously ill and being treated at the hospital. We stayed in Eckersley House in July ’15 when our son\, Edward\, suffered a cardiac arrest and later passed away. As a family we will forever be grateful that The Sick Children’s Trust enabled us to stay on site\, 24 hours a day whilst he was treated in PICU at the hospital.  We will also be taking items to Sheffield Children’s Hospital after Henry was under their care for three months following brain surgery and whilst recovering from meningitis and pneumonia.  All of the following will be parcelled up into ‘Xmas care packages’ and delivered to patients and their families enduring such a difficult time over the Xmas period. Any items would be gratefully received – we do really appreciate the support and really do appreciate just how much it helps families (at such difficult times) to know that others are thinking of them. The items they are collecting are:  \nCoffee\, hot chocolate\, tea\, sugar\, mince pies\, biscuits\, chocolate\, tissues\, selection boxes\, chocolate coins\, sweets (for patients and their siblings)\, hand creams. \nPlease send items to school on Friday 5th or Monday 8th December\, and they will be collected by the Ash family.

On this day\, all the children will be doing the majority of their learning outside. They will come to school in non-uniform\, wearing clothes that they don’t mind getting wet or muddy. We would also like every child to bring a pair of wellies or boots that they can change into when doing the activities in muddier areas and if possible waterproof trousers and jackets. If children do not have a change of shoes for the muddy activities they may not be able to fully join in as they will need clean shoes to wear indoors for lunch etc. \nAt the end of the day\, we are inviting any parents who wish to join us to come for a OPAL Parent Play session. This will be at 2.25 pm until 3.05 pm and will be an opportunity for parents to see what their children have done that day\, as well as join in with a typical lunchtime play session. \nIf you wish to attend\, please just fill in this link to notify us that you will be there.

SUMMARY:PTA Competition - Pumpkin Decorating & Guess the Weight
DESCRIPTION:Reception\, Year 1\, Year 2\, Year 3\, Year 4\, Year 5\, Year 6 \nWe have one volunteer for this event so it can go ahead. We would really appreciate other helpers to support this person though. Please do get in touch if you are able to help. \nChildren will be able to bring their decorated or carved pumpkin and put it on the grass as you enter the school grounds from Tranby Lane. Families entering a pumpkin can drop them at school between Monday 20th and and Thursday 23rd October 8.30 am – 8.45 am. It will be £1.00 to enter on the day the pumpkin is dropped off. The pumpkins will be judged on Thursday 23rd October and can be taken home on Friday 24th October. Halloween Hamper prizes will be given in assembly on Friday. \nIn addition\, before school and during the school day\, children will be able to ‘Guess the Weight of the pumpkin’. This is £1.00 a try and a Halloween Hamper is the prize. If you don’t get chance to do this before school\, and your child wishes to enter\, please send £1.00 on Thursday 23rd October (you can get a peek of the giant pumpkin at the main entrance to school). \nIf you are able to help at this event on any day that week\, Monday to Thursday 8.30 am – 8.45 am\, to receive the entry fees and allocate a number\, please get in touch via ptaswanlandschool@gmail.com.
