Year Five
Welcome to year 5!
The teachers in year 5 are Mrs Greensmith (5LG) and Miss Richardson (5DR).
The teaching assistants this year are: Mrs Goulding, Mrs Lamb and Miss Welburn. We also have the support of Miss Atkin, Miss Horler, Miss Henriksen, Miss Mackie, Miss Shirley and Mrs Walker.
On a Thursday morning Mrs Neal teaches ICT and on a Friday morning, Mrs Martin teaches RE and Music, and Mrs Anderson teaches Art.
Throughout the Autumn term we have lots of exciting experiences lined up including our trip to Eden Camp, where the children will feel as though they are in a war-torn London. This will then support the children and their learning as we travel back in time to the land of canes and flying board rubbers in the 1940s classroom as part of our Evacuee Day!
In the Spring term, we will be working as Historians through our immersive Anglo-Saxon day. The children will be making enquiries using historical artefacts including: weapons, runes and clothing. Additionally, they will have the opportunity to interrogate a real-life Anglo-Saxon on daily life including their deathly cake trials!
In the Summer, we will be embracing our team building skills and independence by taking on a variety of challenges on our Robinwood residential. This will include gliding through the lake on our team-built raft, building crate towers as high as Big Ben and ziplining through the treetops. Thankfully, we usually bring home ALL the children after the piranha pool!
In the second half of the Summer term, the children assist the staff at Tophill Low Nature Reserve with their data collection and identification of species through a variety of activities. This will include a VIP tour of the reserve and a very hands-on pond dipping task. This knowledge is then used in our Science lessons to consolidate the children’s understanding of living things and investigations.
We have lots of exciting opportunities for both the children and parents this year and we are really looking forward to working with you this year.
